Jean Daguerre was many things; a wife, mother, daughter, sister, aunt and friend. Those were her titles, but something far greater ended up defining her; a title she wouldn’t come to own or understand until later into her beautiful life: Warrior.
As a Montessori teacher, it was embedded in her to teach others and reach them where they were at on their individual paths in life. What she didn’t know was that she was about to become the world’s teacher on heroism, strength, fierceness and fight. The love everyone in her world had for her spanned the globe and inspired countless number of lives, from every walk of life; from those she knew and thousands more she didn’t.

You can’t ignore her story or her many exemplary traits that lead you to believe that angels on earth really do exist. Her story is both made of dreams and tragedy, separately and all at once. Her story is one of hope and heartache, illumination and darkness, adversity and heroism, lost and found, risk and reward, inspiration and courage, strength and grace. She had a way about her; she shined and always seemed untouched by the negativity in the world. She wanted no part in that; she wanted to live in an optimistic world where anything was possible. She was a survivor in every sense of the word and soon she would come to find that the definition would take over her existence.

It would be impossible to dream up the amount of blessings that came to her and even, what was waiting for her. When she met her husband, Hernan Daguerre, he whisked her away and crowned her his Queen the moment he laid eyes on her. They married in Buenos Aires in 2004. Her dream was just beginning as her world opened up to love, life and blessings soon to unfold. Jean lived a fairytale series of dreams come true; you could always count on seeing her joy by the light in her eyes and the sparkling smile on her face as her cheeks rose to kiss her eyelashes. She radiated light.
In October 2009, Hernan and Jean welcomed their first child, a son, Lucas Gabriel. Lucas was the beacon of everything perfect and pure within, not only their newly crowned family, but their life as husband and wife. When Lucas was born, life made sense in ways it never had before. No two people were meant to be parents more than Jean and Hernan. Maybe you had to watch them to understand, but them loving and raising Lucas together, it was like watching the most eloquent of dances. Between the three of them, they were magic.
As Jean and Hernan were settling into life as parents, in August 2010, only a couple months before they were to celebrate Lucas’s first birthday, Jean learned two things: first, she was pregnant with her second child and two….she had breast cancer. How this was a part of her story, no one could understand. How she went about both was nothing short of a mother’s fierce love. Within a week of her initial diagnosis, a new version of Jean emerged. She was ready to go to battle and she had no intention of backing down. She decided that everything she loved was worth risking it all for. And not one word of apology left her lips for what she knew she had to do; she was on a mission and there was nobody that would stand in her way. With her Dr reassuring her that their unborn child would be safe while undergoing surgery and chemotherapy, all Jean needed to know was where to be and when. See, to Jean, she didn’t view cancer as a life sentence; she accepted it as a detour in her journey and with a smile, a few laughs and a bountiful amount of grace, she took her world by storm. She walked alongside the odds with a dominate stance and she didn’t spend a second thinking that this would end without her giving everything she had. When one would fold, Jean chose to rise. And rise, she did.



After an aggressive and courageous 4 year long battle with cancer, Jean passed away on September 20, 2014 and hearts all over the world broke simultaneously. As painful as it is, as her friend, to write this, it also is one of my greatest honors. Both in life and in death, Jean will be missed, mourned and remembered. Most of all, she will always be loved by the seeds she sowed and the astounding impact she made.
Maybe it was never about curing Jean of cancer, for which our hearts are broken because of. Maybe it seems that every prayer, tear and fear that we all shared with her was unheard and the pain, too quickly validated by the outcome. But, maybe it wasn’t about the outcome at all, but more about the impact one human being was able to make in the lives of thousands that she was meant to reach with her story. Jean told me many times that she wanted to make a difference in other’s lives; she wanted to show, by example, that you really can rise from the ashes and that all the heartache and tragedy she went through didn’t define her. Her courage, tenacity, strength and fight did; that’s how she would want you to remember her. Where all gave some, Jean gave all. And, if it really was more about the journey than the destination, if the final leg of her journey was to teach and inspire through the joy and sorrow of her own life, maybe then, we can learn to mimic everything she stood for and be changed in ways that weren’t possible without witnessing the way she danced and hand wrote every chapter of her story.

What do I want you to know about Jean Daguerre? Jean is beautiful. Jean is courageous. Jean is the epitome of grace. Jean fought to the bitter end. Jean is the kind of friend that, regardless of struggle, background, future or status, she loves you because of who you are, not what your circumstances are. Jean’s wisdom is nothing to ignore, but something to apply. Jean’s humor is lasting; she took life as seriously as she could until humor found its way to the surface and then she was all in. Jean’s compassion for the fallen; I dare you to match it. Jean, oh incredible Jean, she’s a game changer and she has no apologies for how many trails she’s blazed before her battle with cancer even began. She is Jean and Jean is love and light.

That was most beautiful tribute I’ve ever read. What a legacy she has left to all who knew her and those that will wish they did! I was fortunate to know Jean through her sister Brandi and I joked to her that I was her facebook stalker. Her pictures and story were inspirational. When the time came, she was the only person I could think of to take my son’s senior pictures. I felt silly even asking her, but she was more than happy to do it and they spent several hours one fall afternoon talking and taking pics and my daughter and I spent the time with Lucas and Gabi. I will always be grateful to Jean for those special photos and the precious note she sent to me afterward. She gave me the best compliment by telling me I was a good mother and should be proud of the son I had raised. What a gift that was to me!!! May God’s peace surround Jeans’ children all the days of their lives and let her “love and light” guide them always.

There are no words to express my deepest sympathy to her beautiful children and family, I did not have the honor of knowing Jean personally but I have read about her from a friend of hers Laurie. Now reading her story I wish I had known her.
My prayers are with her Chrildren at this time and I know their Mom and Dad will be guiding them through life from heaven above.
A hero was taken from her Chrildren and now they were given special Angels assigned to them personally and their names are Mommy and Daddy. May their Moms courage give them the strength to grow as amazing people just as she was to all who knew Hera.

Where to start, she was one of my nieces and one of the strongest women I ever knew or will ever know. I am proud of the why she fought for more time with her children. Jean was a loving beautiful, wonderful woman who gave all to her children & family. I am happy that Jean got to meet & marry the Love of her life Hernan and have two beautiful healthy children with him. Lucas & Gabi had two amazing parents that are now Angels looking over them for the rest of their lives, and they will always be in their hearts and souls. You were our “Jean Strong” to the end. Jean will always be in our hearts and deeply missed every day. Jean had a beautiful contagious smile that would make you smile even if you did not feel like it. Everyone that knew her and was lucky enough to be close to her were better off for that relationship, as she gave more then she took. All my thoughts and prayers are with Lucas, Gabi, Betty, Brandi, Kim, and Jimmy along with the rest of her immediate family and close friends that loved Jean. When ever you need Jean just close your eyes and she will be there holding your hand helping you through the tough and sad times. I am proud to call her family.

Such beauty and grace. Eloquent and graceful. Loving and caring. Words can not express the person that was Jean. Getting to know Jean this last year, as both our families moved back to Indy, was truly a blessing. Our favorite moment was of Jean and our infant son Jaxon napping in her bed. They were both in pure bliss and she was in no pain. That was so touching to see. She is now with the angels and hope she blesses us all!!!

I met Jean thanks to our mutual friend Carlota Collins in Portland, Or. We celebrare together Lucas’s 1st birthday and I can tell that she was the most amazing mother I have ever met. she helped me with my own struggles during my IVF process. Jean was so kind, generous and she always held my hand and gave me hope that one day I will have my own baby. When she announce that Gaby was on her way I couldn’t be happier, when she asked us for prayers I did it with all my heart.
Jean became my hero. She will always be my inspiration. Her strength had no limits and after 5 years of struggles, I learned on September 20th that I am pregnant. Won’t be an easy one, but I have the image of Jean at my side, smiling and whispering in my ear… Stay strong, Jean strong.

Having met Jean and the kids only recently through Mi Escuelita, I was glad to learn even more. I am praying for not only Gabi and Lucas but for your entire family. I saw this beautiful girl walking her 2 dogs with her beautiful little boy in a stroller AND a baby on the way. I’m a dog walker and I was walking a dog in Bellevue, WA in one of the high rises. We started chatting and I offered my help. We went inside and found we had a lot in common. I’m a now 22 year Breast Cancer SURVIVOR so we DID have a lot to talk about. She had this AMAZING charisma that I just had to get to know her. I was her dog walker when she lived here and loved my bit of time during the day with her where we could get to know each other better. I couldn’t believe how incredibly STRONG Jean was THRU EVERYTHING!!! It’s rare to meet someone later in life that you could become very close to so quickly.
